Abt For Assembly casual candidate

Christina Abt served as the Emcee for TEDx Buffalo Women.  It is a role to which she was well suited, as promoting women and their talents has been one of her life long endeavors.

Another of Christina’s life endeavors is running her  aBc Writing, Consulting and Event Services Business,.   She additionally plies her writing trade as a newspaper columnist.  Christina’s Op-ed column, Heart and Soul, has been a staple of the WNY community for 16 years, running currently in The Sun Newspapers and on special reprint permission in WNY Women Magazine and wnywomen.com.

Christina’s written work has also been featured in national publications including an array of Chicken Soup Books, national equine publications, The Buffalo News, Artvoice, Buffalo Spree, Traffic East, EVE and Living Prime Time Magazines.  Her first book, Chicken Wing Wisdom: Western New York Stories of Family, Life and Food Shared Around the Table, has become a WNY best seller.  It is an entertaining collection of stories about women, their innate sense of wisdom and the amazing ways that they share that wisdom through food.

Expanding her writing talent, Christina has become well known as a listener commentator and special reporter for NPR radio affiliate, WBFO (88.7 FM). She furthered her broadcast work with the launch of Buffalostyle Talk Radio on WECK (1230AM) and as WECK’s morning drive co-host, working with veteran WNY radio icon, Tom Donahue.  The success of her radio stories encouraged Christina to create companion Internet videos, which became popular on Facebook and Youtube  under the Buffalostyle banner (www.buffalostyle.wnymedia.net.)

Public service has always played a large part in Christina’s life, as evidenced by her involvement as President of the Eden Chamber of Commerce, a founding board member of Vets HERD, organizer, co-writer of  Love Knows No Boundaries, (a song that helped fund a Flight 3407 memorial site),  board member on the Clarence Flight 3407 Memorial Committee and in her recent candidacy for the New York State Assembly.

Ultimately however, Christina lists her most significant life accomplishments as her loving daughter and son and her two brilliantly perfect grandchildren.

Amber Small joins this year’s list of TEDxBuffaloWomen speakers with an important question: why aren’t there more women in elected office? Throughout the United States women are significantly underrepresented in all levels of government, including Congress, where they make up less than 20% of the total membership.

Through her participation in WomenElect, Amber has spent the past several months working to address and conquer her own “space between” understanding the need for more women in elected office and making the decision to be a part of the solution by becoming a candidate.

Drawing from her experiences, as well as her professional background in political and legislative work for the City of Buffalo and Planned Parenthood, Amberwill address the uncertainties that deter so many women from seeking elected office and the ways we can combat them.

A native of Western New York, Amber was raised in Fredonia before moving to Buffalo to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Buffalo and a Master of Science in Public Relations from Buffalo State University.
